Sony, which was one of the suitors for Paramount, is now feeling the domino effect of that studio’s merger with Skydance with a slew of executive title bumps, as the Culver City lot on Monday made it official that Josh Greenstein is departing as Sony Pictures‘ Motion Group Co-President.
This leaves Sanford Panitch as the sole President of Sony Pictures’ Motion Picture Group.
Greenstein is currently in talks to join Paramount-Skydance in an undefined senior executive role.
As we told you first, Columbia Pictures EVP Peter Kang now moves up to President of Production overseeing the label’s production and day-to-day development ops, reporting to Panitch. Andrea Giannetti, a 35-year veteran, is being promoted to VP Production and Senior Creative, Columbia Pictures. She’ll also report in to Panitch.
Nicholas Weiss and Dave Fruchbom have been raised to Co-Heads of Global Creative and Strategy, reporting to Head of Theatrical Marketing Danielle Misher and working closely with President of International Marketing and Distribution Steven O’Dell on international matters. Misher and O’Dell will report directly to Tom Rothman, CEO and Chairman of Sony Pictures’ Motion Picture Group.
Said Rothman, “We are all sorry to see Josh go. He has been a wonderful colleague for many years, and we wish him the very best. The key to a sound organization, however, is to have a strong bench. Our marketing group has that, and I am very pleased to recognize some of our outstanding longtime talent with expanded roles. Dave and Nick are two of the finest creative advertising minds I have encountered in my many years of doing this, and Danielle and Steven provide expert, experienced leadership. I am confident our marketing prowess will only grow.”
Rothman continued, “Likewise, Peter is one of the most skillful and dedicated production executives in all of Hollywood. Sanford and I have worked with him off and on for over 25 years, with great success. I’m sure that Peter will keep the Columbia lady’s torch shining brightly, and that Ange will continue to deliver big hit movies, as she always has. And I know I can count on Sanford to embrace his expanded responsibilities. The depth and breadth of his abilities are unmatched and critical to our success.”
Panitch added, “I’m thrilled to have someone as accomplished and smart as Peter leading Columbia Pictures. And in addition to the pleasure of working with all the many capable executives at each of the divisions I oversee, I feel especially fortunate to collaborate directly with the exceptional Ange Giannetti. We have a lot of big event movies moving down our pipeline, so it is a very exciting and promising time at Sony, where we continue to prioritize and prize the theatrical experience.”
Kang joined Sony Pictures in 2019 and worked on the development and production of many franchise and filmmaker-driven films. He oversaw 2024’s global hit Bad Boys: Ride or Die ($404.5 million worldwide) and 2020’s No. 1 global release Bad Boys For Life ($431 million worldwide). Kang played a key role in launching Sony’s collaboration with PlayStation Productions, which yielded the 2022 global blockbuster Uncharted and Neill Blomkamp’s Gran Turismo. He also brought in Gene Stupnitsky’s No Hard Feelings, starring Jennifer Lawrence. Kang’s upcoming slate includes projects with Paul King, Justin Lin, Neill Blomkamp, Gene Stupnitsky and Tom Holland. He is currently in pre-production on The Legend of Zelda, which is being produced by Nintendo and Avi Arad Productions, and will be directed by Wes Ball.
Fruchbom, who joined Sony Pictures in 2015, and Weiss, who joined in 2014, have led the creative campaigns behind some of the studio’s most successful and acclaimed releases. Fruchbom’s work includes Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and Greta Gerwig’s Little Women — both Academy Award–nominated — as well as Ghostbusters: Afterlife, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, Where the Crawdads Sing, A Man Called Otto, Ridley Scott’s Napoleon, Anyone But You, and Danny Boyle’s 28 Years Later. Weiss has spearheaded campaigns for blockbuster franchises including Jumanji: The Next Level, Bad Boys for Life, Bad Boys: Ride or Die, Venom: Let There Be Carnage, Venom: The Last Dance, Insidious: The Red Door and The Equalizer 3, among many others.
Giannetti has overseen the production on such hits as the Dwayne Johnson-Kevin Hart-Jack Black Jumanji films, which have grossed a combined $1.77 billion globally; It Ends With Us; and The Equalizer 3. She is currently in preproduction on the next Jumanji installment which opens on December 11, 2026.
