Prime Video Spain & RTVE Strike Deal For ‘El Grand Prix’

Here’s an interesting broadcast model out of Spain. Prime Video’s local service will premiere episodes of wacky summer competition show El Grand Prix immediately after their debut on pubcaster RTVE‘s La 1.

Broadcasters and streamers are increasingly open to rights share agreements on original shows, as they seek to provide original series and films at lower price points. This is a good example of that happening.

The new version of El Grand Prix, which is a returning staple on Spanish TV, will see Ramón García, actress and comedian Lalachus and RTVE group journalist Ángela Fernández, named as new co-presenters.

The new edition of the show, which launches this summer, will feature fun events and new celebrities who participate alongside towns from all over Spain to win the trophy that will make them champions.

The 10 towns selected are Huelma (Jaén), L’Ollería (Valencia), San Sebastián de la Gomera (La Gomera Island – Tenerife), Herencia (Ciudad Real), L’Arboç (Tarragona), Celanova (Ourense), Urduliz (Vizcaya), Alagón (Zaragoza), Peñaranda de Bracamonte (Salamanca), and Cubas de la Sagra (Madrid).

RTVE revived El Grand Prix after 14 years in 2023 and ordered a follow-up last summer following strong ratings. The series had originally run between 1995 and 2005 on La 1. It was then brought back between 2007 and 2009, but had dropped off schedules until its more recent renewal.

This marks the first team a streamer has boarded the show, which is made by RTVE in collaboration with iZen Group’s EuroTV Producciones.

News of the deal came as Prime Video and RTVE exece attended Conecta Fiction & Entertainment in Cuenca today.
