Dawson’s Creek star Katie Holmes is paying tribute to Obi Ndefo, her former co-star whose death was announced Aug. 31.
Holmes, who played Joey Potter on the WB series, wrote on her Instagram story that Ndefo “was wonderful to work with and such a kind man. I send prayers and grace to his family. Rest in peace.”
Holmes also shared a post from Mary-Margaret Humes, who played Dawson’s mom Gale on the Kevin Williamson series. She wrote that “it’s hard for me to conceive that you have left us, my dear friend. You always were and always will be a bright shining light. What an example of pure unfiltered love and tenacity you set as you faced life’s challenges of recent. I will cherish all of our messages of love and support to each other over the past few years. Rest in peace sweet warrior.”
Ndefo’s sister Nkem announced her brother’s death Saturday night on Facebook. A cause of death has not yet been released.
Ndefo’s passing comes five years after he lost both his legs in a hit-and-run accident in Los Angeles. He had since been focused on his health and recovery, remaining active as a yoga teacher over the years.
After graduating from Yale University’s drama school, Ndefo began acting in various TV roles on episodes of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, The Wayans Bros., The Jamie Foxx Show and 3rd Rock from the Sun.
Ndefo’s most memorable performance came as Bodie Wells, the brother-in-law to Holmes‘ Joey on Dawson’s Creek, a role in which he appeared from 1998 to 2002.
