In his New Rules segment on Real Time, Bill Maher decried some liberal strategists’ idea that the Democrats need to find their own version of Joe Rogan.
“Instead of conjuring up a new Joe Rogan, ask yourself why you lost the old one,” Maher challenged. “Because he used to be on your side.”
Ditto Elon Musk.
Maher called Musk “another guy who five years ago was thought of as a liberal who was driven into the other camp by bad attitudes and bad ideas — a reversal I completely understand although I would never emulate it.
The Real Time host continued, “I related to the kind of mean girl shit you get from the cool kids in Wokeville. They tried real hard to cancel Rogan.”
And when Musk hosted SNL in 2021 well before he was Trumper, Maher claimed some of the castmembers gave him the cold shoulder for the sin of being rich.
“You think people don’t remember when you do this sh*t to them? That it’s not going to have blowback?”
Maher then advanced a proposal for those liberal strategists wandering in the wilderness: “All the guys in American like Joe and Elon, you do have to win them back — and you can.”
He suggested Musk and Rogan didn’t get “that The Last of Us fungal infection and became zombies.” They didn’t turn to the dark side, he maintained.
“No, they just got driven away, because that’s how politics works these days. Because a one side gets elected and pushed their agenda way too far and drove people in the opposite direction. The pendulum swings back and forth, not with people voting FOR anything but just to get rid of the latest extremist assh*les who seek to remake American in their image instead of just governing. Well, right now it’s the Republicans who are drunk with power.”
